In Emily’s words
The couples I do my best work with
Some of the couples I work with find themselves stuck in a painful loop, while others are doing fine but want a deeper connection. Either way, they’re committed to each other and willing to engage in exploring their relationship, wherever they’re starting from. What matters most is openness and curiosity: a willingness to slow down, really hear each other, and look honestly at their own part. And while the work is serious, it doesn’t have to be grim. Many couples find their way not only to understanding each other, but to laughing together again.
My style in the room
I'm an advanced practitioner of Imago Relationship Therapy. Each session, we transition in with a brief centering, followed by sharing an appreciation back and forth. Then we use the Imago Dialogue process (a structured form of communication that keeps both parties feeling safe, heard, and understood) to explore whatever needs exploring that day. That might be an information-gathering expedition (What are their different conflict styles? What's each partner's relationship with money?), a deep dive into an ongoing conflict, or simply a conversation to strengthen connection (sharing a favorite memory or a dream they have for the future).
Clients often tell me they appreciate…
I'm known for being easygoing, warm, genuine, and charismatic. I also love to bring humor to the conversation, to balance out the weight of taking on the tough stuff. For me, success is helping my couples experience growth, healing, and connection in a space where they feel seen and heard.
Outside the therapy room…
I have a preposterous number of cats, and a reasonable number of children and plants. I can be distracted in session like your favorite high school teacher by bringing up British crime dramas, knitting, the best flavor of Waterloo sparkling water, Costa Rica, or your current video game obsession.
Not the right fit for
Couples with active intimate partner violence, coercive control, extreme substance abuse, or ongoing infidelity may be better served by a clinician who specializes in these areas.
