In Laura’s words
The couples I do my best work with
I love working with couples who want to stay connected without losing themselves in the process. Couples who are curious about their patterns, willing to take responsibility for their part, and want to navigate conflict without shutting down, blowing up, or pulling away. Most of us weren't taught how to do that growing up, and I love teaching those skills. Maybe you're stuck in the same fights, feeling distant, or struggling to find each other admidst parenting or a big life change. I'm especially drawn to neurodivergent couples, where one or both partners is autistic or has ADHD.
My style in the room
I'm steady, engaged, and honest about what I see, including how each of you contributes to the dynamic between you. We spend our first few sessions getting a clear picture of your relationship and what's keeping you stuck. Then we get to work. I'll help you recognize patterns that aren't working, interrupt them, and practice doing something different right there in the room. I don't want you leaving with just more insight into why things are hard. I want you to know what to do differently, so you can start feeling the difference in your relationship right away.
Clients often tell me they appreciate…
That I can challenge both partners without making either one the villain. And that I stay calm and grounded when things are at their hardest. Clients feel like we’re in it together, that I’m willing to push them, but I’m also rooting for them every step of the way.
Outside the therapy room…
I’m happiest when I’m absorbed in a creative project. Otherwise: spending time with people I love, planning my next meal, jogging very slowly, and attempting to keep my houseplants alive.
Not the right fit for
I typically refer out couples when one partner is focused solely on changing the other and isn’t open to examining their own part in the relationship. I also refer out when active substance abuse, domestic violence, or acute suicidality requires a different level of care or specialized support before couples therapy can be safe and effective.
